Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros is the most iconic video game franchise in history, so of course a Super Mario Bros live action film starring Mario and Luigi made sense to movie studios in 1993. Unfortunately the grimy wasteland inhabited by Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo and Dennis Hopper on the silver screen bore very little resemblance to the colorful fantasy world we saw on our television sets at home.
The film has lived in infamy for 25 years as many more video game movies have come and gone, but no further live action forays into the world of the Super Mario Bros have ever been discussed…until now.
Join Adam, Jeramy and returning guest, Colin as they share their stories of gaming with Mario in the 80’s and 90’s, their first time seeing Super Mario Bros in movie theaters and ultimately begin pitching their wild ideas for a Super Mario Bros movie sequel.
Will the gritty cinematic vision of Dinohattan return along with some amped up violence in the mushroom kingdom? Or will the crew work to bring the film back in line with the imagination of gamers everywhere to create a worthy quest for these video game heroes? Listen now and find out how Super Mario Bros 2 takes shape in the world of imagination known as SequelQuest.
